Puppy Updates
Puppy Updates, now five half months
Hi Paula,,
Just thought I’d update you on Emmy & send a few pics.
She is beautiful and delightful. She is sweet and patient. Loves her morning walks and all of her friends. She’s got beautiful black rings around her eyes and long eye lashes. She seems to have some sable brown among the silver. She is her mamas girl. I hope the pictures show her beautiful color.
Hope all is well with you, Jim and the pudels. I’ll keep checking in on Gracie’s blog.

- - - picture coming? - - - Paula, what do you think of my boy? 19" tall and about 30lbs. Still has a full puppy coat that is so silver underneath. We saw Dandee and Ellie today. She (Ellie) is just the sweetest dog ever!!!! Spirits temperment is nothing like hers. He very confident, stubborn, and sassy! He always wants to get the last word in. He has a mind of his own. Bonnie (Alices' partner) got to experience it for herself today. You have to be clear and mean business with him. He is coming along nicely and we have a great bond forming. Spirit loves puppy classand is highly motivated by his treats. The trainer says he's doing great. He is a handsome looking poodle. I am very pleased with him, thanks so much. Will keep in touch, Kathy "Spirit" is Emmitt, named him Emmitt due to his size and strenth Kathy lost her standard poodle after having him for seven years, Emmitt was named after Beau's "spirit" - - - - - |

Enrique
Enrique has been chosen to be trained as a veteran therapy dog. We are so proud of him. They chose him from his Volhard aptitude testing. If you'd like to know more about what that is, go to www.volhard.com.
They asked if we would like to be involved in naming him. They name the puppies a military or patriot name. I will send the name votes to her tonight, here are the list of names that have been approved for their program. I told her we stay away from names that have the 'sssss' sound or 'ch' sound, it's a dog's natural instinct to stay away when they hear those sounds.

in the program. They are both names for basically the same pack.
Daily (Dan Daily: Marine, Double Medal of Honor Recipient)
Teddy (Teddy Roosevelt)
Bennie (Benefits)
Elliot (George Elliot, 10th commandant of the Marine Corps)
so far we haveElliott - 4Teddy - 3I.L.B.E. - 1 (from our two boys' marine family's choice)
I will send her our votes tonight, of course my favorite is Elliott since he's from the "E" litter.
here's pictures of him from about five weeks on, almost 7 wks old
caught him playing with our 16 wks old puppy, La Roux. He's an active, little bit of a tough guy,
what is Enrique like right now? I was in cleaning up the puppies, I was talking to all of them, petting them, etc. I look up and Enrique is staring very intently at my face. I looked at him, he immediately relaxed like a cool, boy. He didn't stop looking at me. He softened his look. I walked toward him and pet him, his eyes softened and put his nose up to get a good pet on the head. I picked him up, he snuggled under my chin. He's a very awesome little boy. He's big boned for this litter, he's nonchalant until he's looking to do something.
They chose "Elliott" for Enrique's new name, nice he is from the "E" litter ya know!
Enrique flys out on this week, send blessings and good thoughts he gets there safe, nothing wrong with good thoughts!
I know he will be received with love and affection

Tomorrow is Personality Testing Day
the new families are waiting to pick out their puppy after the Volhard testing Monday the 6th,
will take me most of the day to do their individual pictures,
here's their group picture enjoying the patio breeze
see Elyria's purple collar behind Everly on the right? Behind the black puppy looking at the bone is Etienne, she has the cutest little face, she's patient and playful ... at this point they are all "playful, inquisitive, Entei likes to jump up and down wherever he goes, he's enthusiastic like his daddy Everad.
from the left you can see Ethan showing off his yellow collar, to his right is Everly laying down, behind him close to the potty park is Elyria. Can you see the difference from the black puppies next to the silver faces? The little face front looking forward I'm guessing is Etienne, she has a very pretty silvery face.
All of these puppies are personable, sweet and playful
Black Puppies First
Enrique is a black puppy. He's 7.5# today, he's calm until I start taking his picture! He's a sweet wonderful busy 7 wk old puppy, just like he should be. Once he's on his feet, he is running, most pics I'm pushing him back to get his picture, no fear on that little face! An afraid puppy would have a "wounded" look to him after being pushed (lightly, but pushed) back. He was patient getting a bath and having his nails cut, pretty good with shaving his face. He's a pleasure of a puppy, probably just playful enough but not too much. He is one of the "big boys"
oh my gosh, he was starting to look down, don't be fooled. He's not afraid or shy!
Enrique in action with our puppy La Roux (tail always up)
Everly is a black puppy. He grew legs about 3-4 wks old. Everly weighed 8# today. He's calm and playful and likes to eat. Everly is named after his daddy, Everad. He jumped around to get his face shaved but not too bad. His eyes were really big when getting his nails clipped, couple little "I don't like this whins." Didn't like the bath, once he got used to it he was drinking water right out of the sprayer. He's a sweetheart. But getting his picture was tough! I gave him a bath thinking it would slow him down, just like his father, just wants more attention! He loves the shoestrings.
a very black puppy, he's also one of the "big boys"
looking at the beloved garbage can they love to attack
top view of 7 wks old puppy running....lol! his tail is always up
front view of 7 wk old puppy running
If I could get this puppy to hold stil .... LOL
note about the sire of this litter
Everad is black, an agility kind of a guy, busy, dominate with the poodles around the house. He's wonderfully fabulous! I think"Entei's"has his personality. Everad is 18" and 23-24#, he's a awesome companion and likes going to class and doing it right. If a poodle can be a perfectionist that would be Everad (Everyone Smiles, and he makes everyone smile!)
We love Everad and Tigre' ... all of these puppies are lovable, smart, active and really great small standard puppies. They are lifetime lovable companions to forever loving homes.
Baths: I use the kitchen sprayer with warm to warm-warm water. I do not use any shampoo on these baby puppies, if I absolutely need to use something soapy, I will use baby shampoo only.

Now the "Blue" Puppies
Elyria is the smallest puppy of the litter, weighed 5# at almost seven weeks old. She holds her stare at you until you look at her, then will leap up. She knows she's got that something special about her, she's really a wonderful little girl. Elyria has silver coming around her keester but not around her tail or face. I have to say I've never seen a "blue" puppy have such a silver keester, she might surprise us what "color" she clears to be about 2 years old. She looks just like Entei!
She's going to Maine with her brother, not sure which brother until after the Volhard testing.
can you say PHOTOGENIC?!
I just realized, she and Entei are twins, they look so much alike (their sire)
what was that noise?
"what would you like me to do?" My hair is still wet from my bath that I didn't really care for
she has white toes on her back feet, thank goodness Alice is a groomer, she needs a good haircut

Entei (on-tay) is Elyria's twin ... lol. He's a blue puppy with a white chin, tiny white on his back toes and if you can find it, a tiny white on his chest. He's sweet and loving and almost patient. He weighed 6# today. Entei is intelligent, can figure things out. He was a very good boy to get clipped and did just fine with his bath too. He's a nice, busy, sweet, inquisitive almost 7 week old boy puppy. Entei is definitely Everad's boy, he will be fast like him, he's an on the ball kind of guy.
... if I only had time to do housework ... guess after 13 puppies go home!
sweet little face, he's wondering why I'm holding him pointing that black box at him!
there's Entei, on the move...
what's that? Not sure, but not afraid either
he's a lighter black, or "blue" he does not have lightening around his keester like his sister Elyria, nor is the hair shaved on his tail ... but the hair around the tail on his back is a lighter black. I think he will have "greying" hairs over his body and will look black but next to a black, will look lighter.

... here's the Silver Puppies
Etienne is a silver puppy with silver coming through on her front legs, bottom and tail. She might test like her momma. Her sister "Elyria" has a shorter nose as a kleinpudel and round little face. Etienne has a petite face but she reminds me of her momma, Tigre'. She's playful as all get out, but also calm, inquisitive, patient and sweet. Both of the females from this litter are really sweet girls but also outgoing and inquisitive. Etienne weighed 5.5# today, I am going to guess she will be 21" and 30-35#, she is a smaller-small standard. She's a nice puppy, a very special attitude about her.
good expression in her face,
she has white back toes and a white chin, and silver everywhere. She likes the kitchen
see the silver coming through on the front of her body?
she's always patient with me whatever I ask her to do, she's a wonderful puppy
Front of her legs look like she doesn't have any hair, but it's just coming in silver as her face.

Puppies and I had to take a break, they were hungry
and now my batteries need recharged,
I will get everyone's pictures on here before tonight,
Elllington is a silver puppy. He's a live wire, jumping around playing and growl playing. He weighed 7# today, was the smallest boy but not any more! He's a hefty guy and full of spunk. Ellington is active, sweet, cuddly and very personable. Jumps up and down to play. He has a silver face, his feet are the most silver of all of the puppies. He too does not like his fanny and tail shaved. He's a little character of a puppy. Taking his picture at almost 9pm, he's very cooperative.
see the dark around his nose and his face is silver?
his tail is usually up, I'm thinking the puppies are tired, it's almost 9pm
what's back there? oh, probably his siblings playing

I could swear these three silver boys look the same,
I could swear these puppies are "Grace's," she's our 22" small standard female,
these puppies look like her color, she has a silver face and a darker silver blue over the rest of her body. Her feet are barely silver with lots of blue. Can I mistaken the momma of the litter? I definitely know who the dad is, but the mom? How did our cream parti girl have these dark silver puppies? funny as heck, they look just like Grace and will probably be her size.
Ethan is a silver puppy. He's personable, active, fun and quiet a little guy. He weighed 6# today. He's feet are as silvery and with a closer shave could be as his face. He was patient with me to clip and bath him. He's a sweet puppy, he also likes to eat and has a big belly to show for it. He was the largest boy but now about the middle for size in this litter.

see his little silvery feet? The camera doesn't catch all of the silver
Emmitt is a silver puppy. Weighed 7# today. He's very confident and gives you that look like "why would you need anyone else?" He's also a character, likes to eat and turning very silver. He will tuck his head under my chin as I walk around holding him, he's a sweetheart of a boy.
He's calm when I hold him, he likes to prance around like a big boy with the other puppies
he's kind of stepping into the camera with his charisma, and he is charismatic

What do you feed your puppies?
I've had this litter on Eukanuba puppy kibble since before they were born, I mix the softened kibble with Bravo Raw Dog Food and they readily eat broken bits of NuVet vitamins. They love to crunch and chew the dry kibble but most ends up on the floor so I soften it.
Since last week I got some highly recommended kibble from Costco, it makes their poo a little grainy. I like highly digestible food for my poodles, less poop in the yard. We really like "Orijin" but it doesn't need raw dog food to compliment it or we usually get too loose of stools in the poodles, just Orijin and NuVet vitamins. I get marrow bones cut up from the butcher. I don't give the puppies the sharp edged bones. If it's convenient I suggest Eukanuba kibble, it has the "probiotics" in it that's suggested.
Keep It Holistic!
I recommend keeping the puppies/poodles on as holistic as possible including shampoos, use only organic house sprays, etc. What works for us is I have an organic spray company come out and spray the house and yard for "bugs" I never have a flea on the dogs or in the house. I do not put flea collars, powders or shampoos on the poodles I highly recommend you do not either.
these puppies have been wormed twice for good measure
They get their first puppy shot the day they turn 8 wks old, then two more puppy series every 2-3 wks after that. Rabies shot is the last of the series about 16 wks old.
A Word of Caution
Protect your puppies until they have their full puppy series shots and rabies shot. Until they have all of those, it's not the time to bring doggy visitors over or take them to the park. Be cautious and careful until they are protected. Keep up their annual shots including testing for hookworms or whatever your vet suggests in your area. Humid areas usually have more things to be ware of, like the hookworms. Dry areas can sometimes need to watch out for Lyme disease. Our area is plaqued with fox tails that can ultimately pierce the heart and kill a dog. Then there's ticks and maybe rattlesnakes. So as you can see, protect your puppies/dogs always at every age.
Puppy Training
YES! Teach them with "having fun." If it's fun, they will do it. Take your puppy personality testing and "teach" your puppy or encourage your puppy what you do want them to be like. A puppy that sees no reason to "come to a calling tester can be taught to come to you. USE TREATS, cooked chicken breast or holistic treats (digestible). STAY AWAY FROM RAWHIDE, it's not a natural food and will "plug" up the digestion. There's puppy socialization classes that they can go to AFTER their rabies shot. Do take your puppy/dog to a beginning obedience class (if you are not showing them) by the time they are six months old. The best way to train your puppy is before they start habits you don't like.
Spay/Neutering
It's basically called "neutering" but most people think of it as "spaying" a female and "neutering" a male. Talk to your vet about the best time to neuter your puppy. I suggest before they are one year old. Most standard poodles come into estrus (season) when they are about one year old. Waiting until they are 8 months old is good to let the puppy grow with their natural immune system and all of their hormones. BUT if you can't stand a male humping and searching constantly, it's time to neuter them. It's up to you and what you want to do with your puppy.
Most importantly, love your puppy, be happy with them on a daily basis, take them with you and protect them at every stage,
blessings, Paula and Jim
